The CAT Australian Computational and Algorithmic Thinking Competition is a one hour multiple-choice/short answer competition. No computer or programming skills or experience are required. We need the problem-solving ability behind algorithm design. It can be used to cultivate students' interest in computer programming. The cutoff score for awards is determined by comparing a student's grades with those of other students in the same grade and region. The cut-off score is an approximate score and varies annually depending on the difficulty of the competition. This competition can be helpful for elementary school students to apply for private school bonuses or for middle school students to apply for school transfers, but its value is relatively low for other AMT competitions, which are entry-level competitions.
